Frequently asked Questions
How many Licenses do I need?
License quantity is based upon installations. If you are an only user and you want to run AxciScape on a Desktop and say a tablet then you need 2 licenses. So you would need to purchase the Main license plus 1 x Additional license.
If you have a system where say 3 other users log in with their own user name then you would need to purchase the Main license and 3 x Additional ones. But if you have 3 other users just using the same PC/Server with the same log in name then you would just need the single Main license!
If you want to install it on a server with 4 users logging in and also install it on 4 tablets then you would need 1 x Main license and 7 x additional licenses.
Will AxciScape create a finished drawing for me?
No ! AxciScape simply draws the selected objects onto an existing CAD plan. You need a CAD program (ideally AutoCAD) and CAD experience to tailor the results and create your template etc. AxciScape draws directly onto AutoCAD using a script file or it creates a DXF for input, but again, these only hold the object entities. AxciScape uses a background map for object positioning but this is not exported; you need to draw onto the original map held in the CAD program.
Do I have to use a Map with AxciScape?
No ! Using the Map is optional. You can use AxciScape for data collection without plotting object positions. In fact you can use it for just about any kind of survey work; just create a template.
Do I have to use AutoCAD with AxciScape?
No ! But its easier and gives you more options. AxciScape produces a DXF output of the object plot and this can be imported into any CAD program which supports the DXF format (which should be most)! It is recommended that you first use AxciScape with its demo, create a DXF and check its usable with your CAD program before purchasing.
Which version of AutoCAD is compatible?
AxciScape creates a (.scr) script file which should be compatible with all past and future versions.
Will AxciScape work on Mac systems?
No! Although it may work with a windows emulator; its a case of trying and see!
Can I use GPS with AxciScape?
Yes! But it does depend upon your particular hardware.
Can I import GIS Maps?
Only DXF CAD plans, SHP files or an image (for indicative work) can be imported.
Can I Create Tables from the data?
Not directly. But AxciScape has a powerful text export module which can merge and format the field data into a text file. This can be pasted directly into Excel, Word, Notepad etc.
What are the advantages of AxciScape compared with ArborCAD?
AxciScape is designed for data collection in the field on a tablet. It has large buttons and supports the touch screen for finger use.
It should remain compatible with all AutoCAD future versions (including LT).
It offers more graphic drawing options such as hatching, symbols, rules, linetypes, scaling etc.
How do tree shadows in AxciScape compare with ArborShadow?
AxciScape can draw an approximate tree shadow trace for a given latitude, time period, tree height etc. ArborShadow offers much more precision and can analyse shadows against a designated target area.
